In the days of the Nazi occupation Helena and Stefan Burchacki lived at 62/21 Targowa Street in Warsaw. In October 1942, when the ghetto in Radzymin was being liquidated, Stefan Burchacki got through to Izabelin, to the village where Jews worked in the dyer’s workshop and extracted peat in the forest. From there he led out his friend, a hairdresser called Jerzy Klajnbard, and his two sisters, Róża and Sabina. He then hid them in his apartment and procured for Jerzy fake documents for the name of Jerzy Wójcik. Róża and Sabina hid with Stefan’s friends in Warsaw. Apart from that, the following Jews received help from the Burchacki family: Wanda Elster, Izak Goldman, Rachela Jonisz, Adam Kerler, Szoszana Kosower, Róża Szafran, Leon Wajnsztajn and others.
