Inauguration of the project “Jan Karski – Unfinished Mission”
On Tuesday, July 13th from 2:45 to 5 pm took place a panel discussion devoted to the memory of Jan Karski, moderated by Jarosław Kurski. Among its participants were historians, diplomats and community workers focusing their work on the history of Poland and the Holocaust: prof. Aleksander B. Skotnicki, Bogdan Białek, Dr. Andrzej Żbikowski, Bożena Łobzowska and Krzysztof Kasprzyk.
On the same day, from 5:45 pm to midnight, took place a presentation of documentaries devoted to Jan Karski, among others a fragment of “Shoah” and “Le Rapport Karski” of Claude Lanzmann, the documentary “Emissaries” directed by Andrzej Wolski and a cartoon produced by the Walt Disney studio, devoted to the mission of the legendary courier of the Polish underground.
Among the events accompanying the celebrations took place on July 6th at 5 pm the presentation of the project“Jan Karski – Unfinished Mission” at the session of the Senate Commission for Emigration and Communication with Poles Living Abroad; a Mass for Jan Karski on July 11th at 10 am in the Field Cathedral of the Polish Army (13/15 Długa Street); the unveiling of the plaque commemorating Jan Karski on July 13th at 10:30 am at 1 Krakowskie Street.
The director of the project is Ewa Wierzyńska from the Museum of the History of Polish Jews. The partners of the project are: the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, the Polish History Museum, the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw, the Museum of the Second World War, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York, the Embassy of France in Poland, the Embassy of the United Stated in Poland, the Foundation Culture Ambassadors, the Jan Karski International Institute of Dialogue and Tolerance in Ruda Śląska and the Jan Karski Association in Kielce.
