Archive of the Institute of National Remembrance
The archival division of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) - the Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes Against the Polish Nation collects, records, stores, develops, secures and provides access to documents of crimes between 1917 and 1990, and documents facts and circumstances regarding the fate of the Polish nation in 1939-1990. It provides information about victims on the basis of certified damages using certified copies, extracts, excerpts and reproductions of stored documents
The IPN Archive resource includes archival documentation regarding Nazi and communist crimes which were previously collected by the Chief Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes Against the Polish Nation and its regional commissions, files of people persecuted for political reasons created by courts aand by pubic and military prosecutors, as well as files of organised prison units.
The Institute of National Remembrance, in conjunction with Chief Directorate of the State Archives, the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum and the Yad Vashem Institute, as well as the Kraków Institute of Strategic Studies, conducts the academic-research project - "An INDEX of Poles Murdered and Persecuted for Helping Jews During World War II”. The main aim of the project is to examine the scale of Nazi persecution against Poles who helped Jews during the occupation and to determine their names and biographies. The results of this research (based on searching Polish and foreign archives, libraries, museums and also witness accounts) will be presented in the form of databases, publications, exhibitions and conferences.
