Polish Disputes Regarding the Holocaust | Discussion
POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews invites you to a discussion “Poles-Jews-Holocaust or Polish Disputes Regarding the Holocaust”, which will take place on 3rd October 2019, with the participation of three book authors – Dr. Tomasz Żukowski, Prof. Maryla Hopfinger-Amsterdamska and Prof. Piotr Forecki. The event is part of POLIN’s Reading Cycle, led by Dr. Krzysztof Persak.
Over two decades, there has been an almost uninterrupted debate regarding the attitude of Polish society towards Jews in the face of the Holocaust. The disclosure, in 2000, of the murders in Jedwabne, undermined the image which Poles had of themselves as merely war victims. Since then, more works have been published revealing unwanted truths about the dark pages of Polish-Jewish relations during the last war. Running parallel to the development of a critical history in the public discourse is the building of a defensive narrative, whose main characters are the figures of the Righteous and innocent witnesses.
