Meet Ryszard Witkowski, Righteous Among the Nations

The Pilot Science Circle of the Warsaw Polytechnic invites the public to meet a legend of Polish aviation, Ryszard Witkowski, Righteous Among the Nations. The event will take place on Tuesday 21st March 2017 at the Institute of Aviation Technology and Applied Mechanics, ul. Nowowiejska 24, Warsaw.

Ryszard Witkowski (ur. 9 maja 1926) - test pilot, air instructor, Home Army (AK) soldier, awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polish Revival. In 1993, together with his mother Felicja and sister Aniela, he was honoured with the title of Righteous Among the Nations. During the War, his family rescued brothers Jan and Bronisław Miodowski, who found shelter in the Witkowski home in Milanówek. He also supplied Józef Roman with false documents.

After the War, Ryszad Witkowski dedicated his life to aviation. In 1945, he completed courses in gliding and, a year later gained his pilot's licence . He was one of the first five Poles to earn a helicopter pilot's licence. In 1962, he graduated, as a mechanical engineer and as an aviation engineer, from the Department of Mechanical Energy and Aviation of the Warsaw Polytechnic. He is also the author of numerous publication on aviation, among them being "The Structure and Flying of Helicopters”, "Six Degrees of Freedom" and "The HIstory of the Helicopter".

The meeting with Ryszard Witkowski will take place at 6:15 pm on Tuesday 21st March 2017 in Hall A at the Institute of Aviation Technology and Applied Mechanics, ul. Nowowiejska 24, Warsaw, sala A. Admission is free.
