During World War II, Franciszka Abramowicz hid her Jewish neighbour, Sender Dyszel, in her home in Międzyrzec Podlaski.
At times of danger, the man would hide in the cellar. When the neighbours denounced on him to the occupation authorities, he had to hide in the nearby forest, to where Franciszka brought him food. He later returned to her home and remained there until the War ended in 1945.
Sender Dyszel left Poland in 1947 and settled in Argentina.
In 1987, Franciszka Abramowicz was honoured with the title of Righteous Among the Nations. In 2017, she was posthumously granted Honorary Citizenship of the State of Israel.
