The man behind ""Youth Meets the Righteous" is Witold Lisowski (born 1932). Before the outbreak of war, he lived in Henryków, near Warsaw, with his parents and two older brothers. The Jewish Inwentarz family lived in his neighbourhood and little Witold became friends with their son Józef, who had the nickname of "Dudek".

In 1941, the Germans moved the Inwentarz family, together with other Henryków Jews, into the ghetto in Ludwisin. During the ghetto's liquidation in October 1942, Dudek managed to flee. In November, exhausted and starving, he returned to Henryków, where the. Lisowski family cared for the boy. They hid him in a small room in the attic of their home.
