Tadeusz Romer Exhibition in Kaunas

Editorial staff / English translation: Andrew Rajcher, 22 March 2019
From 20th March, the Chiune Sugihara Museum in Kaunas will host the exhibition entitled “The Polish Ambassador in Japan Tadeusz Romer and the Jewish Refugees in the Far East”. The exhibition endeavours to restore the memory of the Polish diplomat who helped Jewish refugees, from occupied Poland, in Japan and in China. In September, the exhibition will go on display in Vilnius.

The official opening of the exhibition took place on 20th March 2019, a few days before the 41st anniversary of Tadeusz Romer's passing. The exhibition was commissioned by the Polish Institute in Vilnius through Dr. Olga Barbasiewicz of the Instutute of Middle East and Far East Studies of the Jagiellonian University. It is the first such attempt to show the actions of the Polish Ambassador to Japan to help Jewish refugees arriving at ports with visas issued by Chiune Sugihara, the Japanese Consul in Kowno.
