The "Silent Heroes" Project
From September 2013 to July 2015, POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews has been actively involved in the "Silent Heroes - Living Memory" project, one that has been put together by organisations actively in Holocaust adult education. We consider how witnesses to history looked at the hiding of Jews during the War and how this is views contemporary artists from various parts of Europe.
Those involved inthe project have worked to bring together the educational examples, ones that are connected to the process of developing communal memory. The website represents a collection of materials gathered together at meetings held in Amsterdam, Hohenems, Berlin, Budapest and in Warsaw. The website includes information regarding the saving of Jews during World War II within the historical context of the various countries. It is an information source on the contemporary forms of remembering history and also includes the personal reflections of projects participants, some within shorts film clips.
Partner organisations include Stichting Castrum Peregrini (Netherlands), Joods Historisch Museum (Netherlands), Judisches Museum Hohenems (Austria), Gedenkstatte Stille Helden in der Stiftung Gedenkstatte Deutscher Widerstand (Germany) and MAROM Klub Egyesület (Hungary).
The project was developed as part of the "Lifelong Learning" programme (Grundtvig Partnership Projects). The common link amongst those involved in the project is an interest in the history of World War II and in Polish-Jewish relations.
This project was made possible with the financial support of the European Commission. The project reflects only the opinions of its creators and the European Commission accepts no responsibility for its content or for its factual accuracy.
