Screening of the film “Radom Righteous Among the Nations”

“Lapidarium – Commemorating the Radom Jews”, devoted to the history and culture of the local Jewish community,  will be held in Radom from 3rd November  to 8th November.  Among the events will be exhibitions, lectures, dance workshops, culinary shows, films and tours devoted to the writer Jehoszua Perle.


 “Tikkun – Repair” is a joint event of the Polish and Israeli prison services. As part of this program, prisoners have participated in cleaning works at Jewish cemeteries. Thirty prisoners have already worked in Radom where, over 4.5 hours, they cleaned up 4 hectares of the local cemetery.

Another element of this initiative  commemorating  Radom Jews is the “Lapidarium” monument, designed by local architect Tadeusz Derlatka. Sixty metzavot , found in Radom after the Seond World War, have been set into a semi-circular wall.

Represented by Chaim Kincler, currently living in Tel Aviv, survivors from the Jewish community, which lived in Radom before the War, have has been trying to build this monument for a long time. The monument was created thanks to the joint involvement of sponsors from Israel, Radom authorities and services conducting the program “Tikkun – Repair”. The monument will be unveiled on 8th November 2010 at 1:00 pm at the Jewish cemetery on Towarowa Street.

Other events will be organized leading up to that day. Among them will be a film “Radom Righteous Among the Nations”, which will be screened on 3rd November at 12:45 pm. The film presents Jerzy Borysowicz and Wanda Pawłowska - Polish Righteous honored by Yad Vashem for saving Jews during the Second World War.

Apart from the screening, other events planned are: the opening of the exhibition of Jewish paper cuts by Marta Gołąb from Kraków (3rd November , 5:00 pm), a lecture by Jan Jagielski from the Jewish Historical Institute entitled “Symbolism of Jewish Cemeteries” (5th November , 12 noon), a tour around the town devoted to Jehoszua Perle (5th November, 2:00 pm) and a concert featuring Nina Stiller “Jidysze Per ” (6th November, 5:00 pm).
