Righteous has passed away
It is with great sadness that we inform that Stefania Cichocka nee Seniow, a soldier of the Home Army, decorated with the Righteous Among the Nations medal this November, passed away on December 2nd.
During World War II, in her hometown of Lviv, she was helping her Jewish schoolmates .One of them was Rut Schaff, to whom Stefania gave her own high school graduation certificate and pre-marital ID, which allowed Rut to remain outside of the ghetto as “Stefania Seniow.”
Stefania Cichocka also aided Halina Weitmann, her sister Janka, and their mother Zofia. In 1943 Stefania and her husband Roman were hiding the three women at a farm in Oleszyce near Lviv, where the couple worked. The women spent three months there. Another of Stefania’s achievements was transporting typhoid vaccines to the Lviv ghetto.
Her sacrifices and selflessness were recognized by the Yad Vashem Institute in 2009.
Stefania Cichocka was 89.
