Rev. Raczkowski’s Medal Handed Over to His Otwock Parish
During Holy Mass on Sunday 17th August 2014 at the Church of St. Vincent de Paul in Otwock, a ceremony took place in which a Righteous Among the Nations medal was handed over to the parish. The medal had been posthumously awarded to Rev Jan Raczkowski, the parish vicar between 1941 and 1947.
The medal and certificate had been presented to Rev. Raczkowski’s family on 11th June 2014 in the Plenary Hall of the Polish Episcopate Conference, Israeli Ambassador Zvi Rav-Ner presented them to Rev. Raczkowski’s niece Teresa Maciejewska. On 17th August, the medal and certificate were handed over to the St.Vincent de Paul parish.
Rev. Raczkowski’s honours were placed in the Holy Mother of Swojczów chapel, next to the Righteous Among the Nations medal awarded to Rev. Ludwik Wolski. The priests had worked together to help Jews in Otwock by providing false baptismal papers and finding them hiding places.
