Presentation of the portal „Polish Righteous” at the conference „Experiencing History”
On October 21st and 22nd, 2010 will take place the scientific conference „Experiencing History”. The lectures will be given in the Historical Museum of the City of Kraków (Krzysztofory Palace, Market Square 35).
Among those invited to participate in the conference “Experiencing History – new tools and methods in promoting history” were teachers, employees of institutions of culture, research workers, PhD students etc.
The participants will have the opportunity to see science and historical education from a new angle, to find out about new, creative teaching methods and to jointly debate how to use these methods in the Polish educational system.
On the second day of the conference, on October 22nd, 2010 as part of the panel “New Internet tools in disseminating historical knowledge” (2:15 - 4 pm) two projects of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews will be presented: Grzegorz Kołacz will talk about the Jewish local history portal “Virtual Shtetl” and Przemysław Szałkowski will present the portal “Polish Righteous – Recalling Forgotten History”, which describes stories of the heroes of the Second World War who decided to save Jews during the war. The panel will be followed by a discussion.
The program of the conference includes the problems such as: historical exhibition as a moving story of old times; new educational methods in teaching history; experiencing difficult, painful history. Among other attractions are practical workshops and tours around some of the exhibitions of the Historical Museum of the City of Kraków.

About the role of emotions in historical education” (Joanna Knapik, Śląskie Museum in Katowice), „How can board games teach history?” (Adam Wapiński, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin), „The multimedia Museum of the History of Zamość Jews” (Weronika Litwin, Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland), „To survive, to experience, to understand – active methods of historical education in museums for children and young people” (Renata Pater, Jagiellonian University), „Researching attitudes towards Jews, the Holocaust and the memory of the Holocaust among young people in Poland. Kielce, Bodzentyn – a case study” (Szymon Beźnic, Center for Holocaust Research, Jagiellonian University), „Between scientificity and popularity – dilemmas of Polish historical portals” (Michael Morys-Twardowski, histmag.org portal, Jagiellonian University).
