PIYE Student Exchange 2013
For the last seven years, the programme has been shedding light on the common Polish and Jewish history and present, and facilitating cultural exchange, creative cooperation and overcoming prejudices. For the 2013 edition, a group of students from Israel will come to Poland for internships in the museum. At the same time, Polish students will come to Israel for three months to study at the Tel-Aviv University, where they will be able to choose courses according to their personal interests thanks to the University's diverse offer. Moreover, the students will take part in a Hebrew language course. The friendships and connections that they will make during their stay will engage them in the Polish-Jewish dialogue.
Our aims.
The student exchange project was conceived as the first educational activity of the Museum. It is directed towards Polish and Israeli students. Its aim is to help young people learn about the multi-threaded Polish-Jewish history and the modern cultures of Poland and Israel. Through meeting new people and gaining new knowledge, the students will be able to actively engage in the project, realised first in Poland and then in Israel, and to look at the Polish-Jewish relations from a new perspective.
How does it look like in practice?
The project is based on the visits of Israeli students in Poland and on the scholarship programme for Polish students in Israel. This will give the project participants a unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the history and culture of both countries.
Israeli students will come to Poland for study programmes lasting ca. 2 weeks. Until 2012, the programmes took form of educational workshops concentrated on Jewish-related themes. Starting from 2013 – the year the Museum moves to its new building – the participants will take part in internships, supporting different sections of the Museum. During an intensive cycle of workshops and cooperation (the participants will undertake the realisation of projects connected to Jewish-Polish and Polish-Israeli themes), the participants will learn more about each other and build positive relationships based on mutual trust.
In autumn, Polish students will leave for Tel-Aviv, where they will study and live in university dorms for 3 months. They will learn a lot about history, tradition, culture and current social situation of Israel. One of the focal points of the programme is taking part in activities promoting the project in Israel.
