Kielce commemorated 25 thousand Jews murdered in Treblinka extermination camp and the Righteous Among the Nations
The ceremony was organized on Sunday, 29 August 2010, on the initiative of the Jan Karski Society in Kielce. This year marks the 68thanniversary of the liquidation of the Kielce ghetto. The attendants of the ceremony said an ecumenical prayer and lit the candles at the Menora monument situated on IX Wieków Kielc Avenue. The celebrants also paid tribute to the Righteous Among the Nations from Kielce and its surroundings who rescued Jews during World War II. The ceremony was held near the monument next to the synagogue.
During the ceremonial, Bogdan Białek, president of the Jan Karski Society, said the following words: “We should always remember about the German crime, especially at the time when the world would gladly forget about it, and we should always remember about the Righteous who did not stay indifferent, especially today, when we act as though anti-Semitism did not exist.”
