“Jan Karski – a Man of Freedom” – an Outdoor Exhibition in Warsaw
The story of Jan Karski’s life is told through the use of twenty two illustrative panels. It begins with his childhood and youth spent in his home city of Łódż. His activities in the War years, as a courier of the Polish Underground State, are dealt with in depth, as is his post-War life in the USA.
A preview of the exhibition took place on 1st December at Teatr Polski in Warsaw. During the ceremony, Ewa Wierzyńska, head of the Jan Karski – an Unfinished Mission project which has been run by the Museum of the History of Poland for the last two years, summed up the program achievements.
From 10th to 28th December, the exhibition can be viewed in from of Warsaw University, and then in the Sejm from 9th to 11th January 2013. The exhibition will also go on display in Łódż and in Wrocław. An English-language version will go on display in the United Nations headquarters from 22nd January.
The exhibition’s creator is Joanna Podolska, Director of the Marek Edelman Centre for Dialogue. Co-organisers of the exhibition are the Marek Edelman Centre for Dialogue, the Łódż Municipal Museum, the National Digital Archives, under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Curators of the exhibition are Ewa Wierzyńska and Magdalena Pawlak from the Museum of the History of Poland.
