On Tuesday 6th June 2017, the Warsaw Uprising Museum was the venue for the launch of events marking the mission of Jan Karski, a Righteous Among the Nations and legendary courier of the Polish Government-in-Exile, who passed on information about the genocide of the Jews to the leaders of the Allies. Among the participants was Under-Secretary from the Office of the President of Poland, Wojciech Kolarski.

Jan Karski was born on 24th April or 24 June 1914 in Łódż as Jan Romuald Kozielewski. He graduated in law from the Jan Kazimierz University in Lwów. After pretending to be a simple soldier, he was released. In 1939, he reached Warsaw and became active in the underground.
