The eighth edition of the Holocaust teaching summer school

From July 1-7, 2013, the Jagiellonian University will hold the eighth edition of the Holocaust teaching summer school.

The summer Holocaust teaching school is a programme which is run by Polish and foreign institutions on a regular basis: The Polish Centre for Holocaust Research at the Jagiellonian University, the Institute for European Studies at the Jagiellonian University, Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, Skokie, Illinois, USA, Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority at the Yad Vashem in Jerusalem and the Galicia Jewish Musuem in Kraków, in co-operation with the International Auschwitz and Holocaust Education Centre at the State Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, the International Youth Meeting House in Oświęcim and the Jewish Centre in Oświęcim.

The programme is addressed to teachers, educators, NGO leaders, PhD students and Holocaust students. For seven years, the summer school has been enjoying increasing interest, which only confirms its high level in terms of curriculum and didactic aspects. The idea behind the school is to build an open and fair society and to fight xenophobia and intolerance.

Each year, the programme of this summer school offers lectures, presentations, workshops, film screenings, discussion panels and sessions of questions to experts. The programme also includes visits to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, to the International Youth Meeting House, to the Jewish Centre in Oświęcim and the Galicia Jewish Museum and to the Kraków Kazimierz Jewish district.

Lectures are given by renowned experts from Poland and abroad, university teachers and co-operators of museums and memorial sites. This edition will be attended by Prof. Michael Berenbaum, Prof. Jan Tomasz Gross, Prof. Feliks Tych, Prof. Zdzisław Mach, Prof. Wiesław Kozub-Ciembroniewicz, Prof. Jonathan Webber, Prof. Andrzej Żbikowski, Dr Jolanta Ambrosewicz-Jacobs, Dr Natalia Aleksiun, Dr Dariusz Libionka, Dr Piotr Trojański, Robert Kuwałek  and Robert Szuchta.
