Redakcja / Editorial staff, 16 November 2016
The 12th May is the fifth anniversary of the death of Irena Sendler, Righteous Among the Nations, who helped save many Jewish children from the Holocaust. The Museum of the History of Polish Jews urges school groups to take part in an educational walk devoted to the activities of the Righteous: HISTORY LOCKED IN A JAR  - IRENA SENDLER’S WARSAW.

In the years 1939-1942, Irena Sendler worked for Warsaw’s municipal Department of Social Welfare. She organised a network of twenty social workers who would lead Jewish children out of the ghetto and then place them with families, orphanages and convents on the “Aryan side”. Irena Sendler then entered the precise details of each child on thin slips of papers and hid them in a jar buried in the ground so that, after the War, the children caould assume their true identities. More information about Irena Sendler can be found here.

The walk:

Irena Sendler’s biography, as well as the problems involved in saving Jewish children and hiding them on the Aryan side, will be explored through the city precinct. Attitudes of the Polish community towards the ghetto will be discussed during the walk, as well as the activities of the Righteous Among the Nations will be described.

The walk is aimed at all educational levels.

The Museum’s educational sessions take place every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 10:15 am and 12:15 pm.
Bookings can be made on: (22) 47 10 301 i (22) 47 10 302.
