Discover Jewish Warsaw

The POLIN Museum has created a new website portal - "Jewish Warsaw" - an on-line multimedia guide showing the Polish capital through the historical prism of its Jewish residents.

It is possible to discover "Jewish Warsaw" in many ways - following in the tracks of comics heroes, taking a stroll with Janusz Korczak or be shown, by means of a travel blog covering contemporary Warsaw to see how it has changed over time.

The site is comprised of three parts which will be of interest to everyone.

We, in particular, we direct junior high school students to the section entitled " The Tracks of Janusz Korczak”, which follows the routes of the Jewish pedagogue and doctor.

For senior high school student, we recommend the nine heroes of the "Historie i kreski” comics, interpreted by Monika Powalisz and Jacek Michalski. Teachers will also find this of interest.

For adults, there is the "Past and Present" section showing the story of Jewish Warsaw, from the time of Jewish settlement in this city, wandering from the Wisła River, through Tłomackie, Nalewki, Grzybów, Senatorską and Plac Teatralny, to Praga. The section also tells of the fate of Warsaw's Jews during World War II.

We uncover post-War history from the perspectives of twelve guides. History here takes on a personal dimension. The guides include Józef Hen, Eleonora Bergman, Seweryn Blumsztajn and, with Bożeną Werbart, we include members of the younger generation such as Daniel Słomka and Joanna Baczko.
