Maria Zawadzka, 16 November 2016
On September 29th, 2011 at 6:00 pm at the Władysław Broniewski Museum in Warsaw (51 Dąbrowskiego Street) will be held a soiree devoted to the book “Aleksander Zelwerowicz” by Barbara Osterloff. The debate will be moderated by Prof. Henryk Izydor Rogacki, and excerpts from the book will be read by  Grzegorz Gierak.

Aleksander Zelwerowicz was not only an outstanding actor and director, he was also the only Polish actor honored by the Yad Vashem Institute with the title “Righteous Among the Nations”.

Zelwerowicz was honored posthumously together with his daughter Lena in 1977, basing on the accounts of people they had rescued during the Holocaust. Two years later was held the awarding of the medal at the consulate of Israel in New York. The distinction was presented to Lena, the daughter of Zelwerowicz. His story has been presented in the two-volume monograph by Barbara Osterloff.
