70th anniversary of the extermination of Otwock Jews

The Committee for the Remembrance of Otwock and Karczew Jewry extends an invitation to commemorations on the 70th anniversary of the extermination of Otwock Jewry. Anniversary events will take place between 17th and 20th August in Otwock. The main event will a March of Remembrance and a prayer service which will commence on Sunday at 7:00pm. Following the march, a new photographic presentation by Leszek Kasprzak will be released which will include numerous Otwock Righteous.

A walk through a non-existent city: a night-time walk in the footsteps of Otwock Jews, commencing at the railway station -led by Sebastian Rakowski, President of Friends of Otwock, and director of the Museum of Otwock.

Saturday, 18th August 2012

The District Youth Culture Centre, Otwock, ul. Poniatowskiego 10.
An exhibition by Menachem Kipnis Yidishland – photographs from 1930-1939.

Following the exhibition:
A concert of Yiddish songs by the Sholem group . Gra i śpiewa zespół Sholem – Maciej Inglot (accordion), Ewelina Tomanek-Inglot (violinist and vocalist), Max Kowalski (double bass).
Entrance: no charge.

The March will commence at the railroad siding, at the railway crossing, ul. Górnej side.

A trip to Treblinka
Meet at the Gałczyńskiego Liceum in  Otwock, ul. Filipowicza.
A trip, by former and current residents of Otwock, to the Treblinka extermination camp, the place where around 7,000 Jews from Otwock and Karczew perished.

August is also the 70th anniversary of the liquidation of ghettoes in other Polish cities.
