The rescued Mira Becker recently came from Los Angeles to Białystok in order to thank the families of her saviors. During the Second World War she managed to escape from a transport of Jews from the Białystok ghetto, which was going to Treblinka. Now she visited places she has not seen for over 60 years. It was a unique experience for her.

On August 22nd, 2011 at the Marriott Hotel in Warsaw was held the awarding  of medals and diplomas to the Polish heroes who were posthumously honored with the title “Righteous Among the Nations” by the Yad Vashem Institute.

Thanks to the efforts of Mira Becker, her rescuers have been honored: Marianna Kazuczyk from Białystok and her sister-in-law Maria Kazuczyk from Janowicze near Juchnowiec Kościelny. The rescued presented the distinction to the relatives of the Righteous, Regina and Dorota Lewoc.

On the next day Mira Becker visited the cemetery in Treblinka (her parents and sister were killed in the camp), and then went to Janowicze, where she first saw the house where she had been hiding for a year.

She met with Regina Lewoc and with the family of Halina Urban. Finally, the rescued went to the cemetery in the Pietrasze forest, where the Nazis shot her brother. She also visited the grave of Marianna Kazuczyk at the St Roch’s cemetery.

Mira Becker nee Kwasowicer managed to escape from a train going to Treblinka. She reached Białystok and found a friend of her parents, Marianna Kazuczyk, who hid her in the attic of her house.

After a few days Mira had to move to a safer hiding place and was taken in by Marianna’s sister-in-law: Maria Kazuczyk.
