Workshops about Raoul Wallenberg
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birthday of Raoul Wallenberg, which is the reason why Hungarian and Swedish governments designated the year of 2012 as the year of this famous diplomat from the time of World War II. In order to promote Wallenberg’s life story in Poland, the Embassies of Hungary, Israel and Sweden to Poland as well as central institutions and recognized Polish figures in the public and cultural sphere have joined forces and would like to invite you to a special series of workshops.
These workshops will deal with the members of the Righteous Among the Nations, and most of all with Wallenberg and other Polish and Hungarian rescuers of Jews. The classes have been organized by the Hungarian Cultural Institute and the Museum of the History of Polish Jews. The workshops have been based on accounts collected as part of the ‘The Polish Righteous – Recalling Forgotten History’ project of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews.
The aim behind the classes is to give an incentive to reflect upon the past and the present, and to understand in a deeper way this era of history and its circumstances. We would like to encourage you to look at history from an individual perspective, and to listen to its actors and witnesses. We do hope that through the workshops we will help the youth to become acquainted with historical facts and, by engaging young participants in the workshops, to teach them how to think critically, interpret information and work in teams, to gain experience in presenting the results of their work, and to compare and draw conclusions from various points of view.
The classes will be run by experienced coaches. The program will be accompanied by a meeting with Batszewa Dagan, a psychologist and former Auschwitz prisoner. The classes, addressed to junior high schools, will take place from 11 am – 1 pm in the Jewish Theater in Warsaw.
