Stanisław Świerczewski – Honorary Citizen of Israel
Stanisław Świerczewski, Righteous Among the Nations, has been granted Honorary Citizenship of Israel. The ceremony took place on 20th May 2013 in the auditorium of the Military Technical Academy in Warsaw, as part of a meeting between personnel of the Polish Army and the Israeli Army under the banner of “Witnesses in Uniform”.
Stanisław Świerczewski (born 1931) and his father, Władysław, selflessly helped Jews in the Płońsk ghetto. They aided three Jews to escape and hid them in the attic of their home. Isaak Mośek (Jan Trawiński), Dawid Kapeluśnik and Eli (Edward) Neuman found shelter there. They later found them further shelter with distant relatives.
Stanisław Świerczewski, and his late father, Władysław Świerczewski, were acknowledged as Righteous Among the Nations in 2004. The award ceremony took place in 2005 at the residence of the Israeli Ambassador in Warsaw.
Today, Stanisław Świerczewski is 82 years old (he is one of the youngest Righteous). He lives in Warsaw and serves as Vice-President of the Polish Society of Righteous Among the Nations.
