Righteous Honoured in Lublin

KJ, 16 November 2016
Righteous Among the Nations medals were posthumously awarded, on Sunday 26th April 2015, in the Theatre NN in Lublin, to Maria and Józef Sadurski, of Końskowola and Stefania Bojarska of Lublin. Descendants of the Righteous and those whom they aided attended the ceremony.

The Sadurski couple gave shelter to Margit Weiss-Lowa, a young Czech Jew, a complete stranger. For a year, the girl hid in a specially arranged hiding place under the barn. It was only at night that she dared come out. She survived the War. The medal and certificate were accepted by Stanisław Sadurski on behalf of his late parents. Margit's son, Eliezer Zinovich, also took part in the ceremony and received an unusual memento from the Sadurski family - a blouse which Margit had hand embroided whilst in hiding. It had been worn by Sadurski girls in the years following the War.

Stefania Bojarska helped Józef Reznik. He had come in the night to her home on ulica Drewniana in Lublin. They had previously only known each other in passing. Stefania hid him in a cell. He survived the War and emigrated to Israel. Jolanta Kopczyńska accepted the award on behalf of her late mother. Józef's son, an emotional Yaakov Reznik, presented Jolanta with a bag of oranges, being a symbolic gesture of gratitude. For many years after the War, he father had been sending Stefania parcels containing oranges.
