The Righteous Czesława Żak Meets With Students in Pustelnik
The school assembly, in two parts, took place on 25th January. In the first part, students viewed a presentation relating to the attitudes of Poles towards the Holocaust, with particular respect to the issue of rescuing Jews – the deeds of the Righteous Among the Nations. There followed a short performance by the students themselves portraying the different reactions of Poles to situations where Jews were helped.
Following an interval, they met with Czesławą Żak. With great interest, they listened to the story of how she had hidden Jews, after which they asked her questions. She also showed them the medal and certificate which had been presented to her by Yad Vashem. The event ended with the presentation to Czesława of flowers and a photographic memento. The meeting had been arranged by Mrs Renata Gryz, a teacher at the Schools Complex.
News of this event also featured in the local press.
