Righteous Bronisława Grzelak Passes Away
It is with deep sorrow we advise that Bronisława Grzelak (nee Podlewska) passed away on 16th August 2015. She was a Righteous Among the Nations, a member of the Home Army (AK) and a liaison officer for the Government Delegation for Poland. A Requiem Mass will be held at 12 noon on Monday, 24th August 2015 at St.Anna's Church, ul. Kolegiacka 1, Wilanów.
Born in 1914 in Warsaw, Bronisława Grzelak, pseudnym Ewa, was active in the underground. She also helped Jews who were being persecuted.
In the summer of 1942, together with her husband, she cared for the two year old son of their friend Żelazo. The boy was extracted from the ghetto and was to be hidden on the so-called Aryan side. The Grzelak couple suggested that they, themselves, take him into their home. They cared for the child until such time as they found a safe hiding place for the whole family.
For extending this selfless help, motivated by friendship and patriotic duty, Bronisława and Antoni Grzelak were honoured with the title of Righteous Among the Nations.
