Profesor Maria Janion Presented With the Irena Sendler Award
This year, the Award ceremony took place in the Polish Senate. The Award was accepted on behalf of Maria Janion by Kazimiera Szczuka, a historian and literary critic, a student of co-worker of Professor Janion’s. The Award was presented by Tad Taube, founder and President of the Foundation and Honorary Polish Consul in San Franscisco Bay, together with Shana Penn, Foundation Director.
The ceremony presenting the Award to Dr Jolanta Ambrosewicz-Jacobs, at the Centre for Holocaust Research at the Jagiellonian University, tookplace a day later, on 4th July, during the Jewish Cultural Festival in Kraków.
The Taube Foundation has been presenting the Award since 2008. It is presented to non-Jews who are active in preserving Poland’s Jewish cultural legacy and in restoring Jewish culture in Poland. This year’s winners were announced on 12th May, the fourth anniversary of the passing of Irena Sendler.
