Our Exhibition "They Risked Their Lives" to Feature at Płock's Jewish Days Festival
This year's festival will open with the exhibition "They Risked Their Lives - Poles Who Saved Jews During the Holocaust”, a project of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, in conjunction with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The exhibition tells the stories of help extended to Jews by Poles during World War II, the historical context of occupied Poland during which that help was offered, the extent of that help and what motivated the Righteous to do what they did.
The exhibition in Płock will open on 1st September at 6:00pm at the Museum of Mazovian Jews at 7 Kwiatka Street. It will remain on display until 20th November 2016.
Płock's fourth Jewish Days festival will also feature the launch of the book Raz jeszcze. Żydzi, Płock, Polska (Once Again, Jews, Płock, Poland) by Rafał Kowalski, the "Jewish Electronics" project and a concert featuring Swedish jazz group Ödemarken.
The festival will end with a talk by Wojciech and Andrzej Celiński, who will speak about their mother Zofia Celińska (nee Lipska), a Righteous Among the Nations and a Home Army soldier, who rescued Jews in Warsaw during World War II.
One of those saved by Celińska was Zofia Lewinówna who co-authored with Władysław Bartoszewski one of the most important books about help extended to Jews during the Holocaust "The One from my Homeland. Poles Helping Jews 1939-1945". Zofia Celińska passed away a few weeks ago. More information on our website.
The festival's detailed program can be downloaded on the Mazovian Museum website.
