One of the Righteous has passed away
Józef Mironiuk, one of the Righteous Among the Nations, passed away unexpectedly on 31 January. A couple of days before his death he went to England to open the “Polish Heroes” exhibition of the Galicia Museum, devoted to the Righteous. He was a happy spirit and was always full of energy. This is how he will be remembered.
From 1943 to the end of the war, Józef Mironiuk's family hid two Jewish brothers – Goldszeft and Wolf Englender – on their farm in Jakówki. The brothers sought shelter after escaping from the ghetto in Biała Podlaska.
In 1992, Józef Mironiuk was awarded the title of a Righteous Among the Nations by the Yad Vashem Institute. Last year, he received the Commander's Cross Order of Polonia Restituta. It was supposed to be handed to him personally on 9 February, during an official ceremony in Rzeszów.
Other Righteous from Józef Mironiuk's family: Franciszka Olesiejuk and Marianna Wachowiec.
