New Profiles of the Righteous

KD, 16 November 2016
Paulina Kisielewska, daughter of the Righteous Bronisława and Zachariasz Płaksej from Kałuszyn near Lviv, told our researcher about 10-year old Dawid Kelman, who asked the Płaksej family for help. They transported him to the hiding place with his head covered with bandage. ‘Dawid had sidelocks and my mother did not want to cut them’ – she explained.

Survivor Alina Wolman told The Jewish Historical Institute about the Righteous Zofia Babińska, an extraordinary owner of a boarding house at Bracka Street in Warsaw, and her daughters: ‘In spite of repeated controls, there was a constant flow of unregistered people, who had escaped from the ghetto and had no documents, at Mrs. Babińska’s place. I was there twice, unregistered, during a Nazi control and Krystyna Babińska hid me in her room risking her own life.'

There are new profiles of the Righteous available on our website. We encourage you to read articles dedicated to: Paulina Kisielewska (maiden name Płaksej), Stefania Kleszcz, Krystyna Kościałkowska (maiden name Babińska), Wacława Paczek, Stanislawa Wieczorek, Elżbieta Godlewska and their families.

In the section called ‘Your story’, you can read an article about the Dagnan family from Tarnów, an appeal for information about Meta Weber – a German woman from Płużnica in the region of Pomorze – who took care of a Jewish girl, and a conversation with Reverend Romuald Weksler-Waszkinel born in the ghetto of Święciany.
