A Meeting with Marta Cobel-Tokarska, the author of a book about Jewish hiding-places during the Holocaust

A meeting will take place on 18th October promoting the book, Bezludna wyspa, nora, grób. Wojenne kryjówki Żydów w okupowanej Polsce (A Deserted Island, a Burrow, a Grave: Wartime Hiding-Places of Jews in Occupied Poland) by Marty Cobel-Tokarska, and published by the Institute of National Remembrance (Instytut Pamięci Narodowej).

The author endeavours an analysis of places used by Jews in order to save their lives during the Holocaust. Marta Cobel-Tokarska creates of hiding-place typology, analysing its specificity, character and space. Limited both physically and socially, it is full of meaning and symbols.

Marta Cobel-Tokarska holds a doctorate in sociology and is an Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology and the Acadamy of Special Education in Warsaw. She has had articles published in ”Kultura i Społeczeństwo” (Culture and Society), ”Midrasz”, and ”Zagłada Żydów” (The Extermination of the Jews). She has participated in historical-archival projects using a mthodology of oral history. She is also the author of popular works on the Polish mountains. 

The meeting  with Marta Cobel-Tokarska will take place on 18th October at 6:00pm at the Education Centre of the IPN at ul. Marszałkowskiej 21/25 in Warsaw. Prof. Marcin Kula and Dr.Marcin Zaremba will also take part in the meeting.
