Karski Remembered in New York
On April 16th 2009 the corner of Madison Avenue and 37th Street in Manhattan was named after the Polish World War II Resistance hero, a Righteous Among the Nations of the World. He was an emissary of the Home Army (AK) during the Nazi occupation of Poland, whose mission was to inform the Allied countries of the situation in Poland, especially about the ongoing extermination of Jews.
Several Polish Righteous, Ewa Junczyk-Ziomecka, the Secretary of State at the Chancellory of the President of the Republic of Poland and Ewa Wierzyńska, the Deputy Director at the Museum of the History of Polish Jews attended the ceremony.
