KARSKI MEMORIAL BENCH IN TEL AVIV
Marshall Komorowski expressed his hope that the memorial bench – similarly to Polish trees planted in the Garden of the Righteous – will become a way of commemorating help brought to Jews by Poles.
– I learned about Jan Karski through books, but I found out much more about him when I visited Poland – claims Dani Lewiatan, the Rector of the Tel Aviv University. – We are proud that Karski sits on the premises of our campus.
He also indicated that the University had issued an informational bulletin on Karski. – This way, we try to encourage students to get interested in Karski. Hopefully, they will later read more about him on the Internet – he said.
The monument takes the form of Karski sitting on a bench and playing chess. It is located right next to the Beit Hatfutsot Museum. Similar “Karski benches” can be seen in New York, Washington, Łódź, and Kielce.
