‘Jan Karski. The Man of Freedom’ – an exhibition in Kielce

An exhibition about Jan Karski is open in the pedestrian zone in Kielce. The exhibition comprises twenty-two charts presenting Jan Karski’s life from his childhood years in his hometown Łódź, to the time of the war and afterwards. The exhibition has already travelled to New York, Wroclaw, Lodz and Warsaw. In Kielce, it will be mounted in the vicinity of Jan Karski’s bench to familiarise passers-by with this extraordinary figure.

The exhibition was designed by Joanna Podolska, the Director of the Marek Edelman Centre for Dialogue, and co-organised by the Marek Edelman Centre for Dialogue, Museum of the City of Łódź, Polish National Digital Archives. It enjoys the patronage of the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, and has been sponsored by Ernst & Young Polska. The exhibition is curated by Ewa Wierzyńska and Magdalena Pawlak from the Polish History Museum.

During the Second World War, Jan Karski communicated classified information from Nazi-occupied Poland to the West. Karski supplied the Allies and the Polish government in London with reports about the Holocaust.

The exhibition, which will be displayed on Sienkiewicza Street, will run until 8th August 2013.
