Imams Meets the Righteous and the Rescued at Nożyk Synagogue
Between the 20th and 24th May, at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a group of imams from Muslim countries and the USA visited Poland. During their visit, they toured the Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz, the Museum of the History of Polish Jews and also met with Righteous Among the Nations and those whom they rescued from the Holocaust.
The meeting with the Righteous and the Rescued took place on 21st May at Warsaw’s Nożyk Synagogue. Members of the Polish Association of the Righteous Among the Nations and the Children of the Holocaust Association told the visitors of their experiences during the occupation. The meeting evoked great emotion amongst these witnesses to history and their listeners.
Organised by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the visit by Muslim clergymen to Poland was aimed at promoting inter-faith and inter-cultural dialogue, directed mainly at Imams from the USA and the Middle East, acquainting them with places linked to the Holocaust.
