An educational project in memory of Jan Karski

, 16 November 2016
Next year marks the centennial of the birthday of Jan Karski. Therefore, Klub Kuriera (Courier’s Club) is presently being arranged in Łódź. Klub Kuriera is an educational project designed for senior high school students and aims at promoting the life of the legendary courier and emissary of the Polish underground state.

‘Klub Kuriera’ will be inaugurated on April 8th, preceding the opening of an exhibition about Jan Karski’s life, which will be displayed at Manufaktura in Łódź. The exhibition has been mounted by the Polish History Museum.

‘Klub Kuriera’ has been initiated by the Marek Edelman Dialogue Centre in Łódź. The main objective of the project is to attract and unite young people who are interested in learning history. The initiators believe that the figure of Jan Karski will set an example which will be followed by contemporary youth.

The Club and its activities have been divided in three parts. In the first stage, selected schools will organise classes on Karski’s achievements in Poland and Europe. As part of the project, young people will learn how to promote patriotic and tolerant attitudes in Polish society. In the second and the third stages of the Club, young members will pass the newly acquired knowledge about Jan Karski and about related values and the history of WWII to their peers in Poland but also in Polish schools in Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, France, Spain and the UK.
