The Daffodils social and educational campaign
On April 19, the streets of Warsaw and many other cities in Poland and other countries will see volunteers handing out paper daffodils – a symbol of remembrance of the heroes of the 1943 uprising.
Daffodils symbolize respect, remembrance and hope. They are linked to the life of Marek Edelman, the last surviving leader of the Jewish Combat Organization. Every year, on the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, he received these flowers from someone whose identity has never been known. And every year, on the 19th of April, Edelman himself would also lay a bouquet of yellow flowers at the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes. On many occasions, these flowers were daffodils.
Schools involved in the DAFFODILS 2015 campaign are under the patronage of the Minister of National Education.
