A Concert Honouring Irena Sendler Held in Australia
“A Ray of Light Through the Darkness”, honouring Irena Sendler, is a piece composed by Israeli Kobi Oshrat. Its Australian premiere took place on 5th July at the Melbourne Recital Centre in Victoria, during a concert dedicated to Irena Sendler. It was performed by Australia’s Orchestra Victoria, under the baton of the composer himself. The concert was jointly organised by the Polish and Israeli Embassies in Australia.
The concert programme also featured traditional Jewish music, a polonaise composed by Simon Laks, and a filmed interview with Janina Zgrzembska, Irena Sendler’s daughter, who spoke of her mother.
The evening also featured addresses by both Ambassadors - Yuval Rotem (Israeli Ambassador) and Andrzej Jaroszyński (Polish Ambassador).
The event was co-sponsored by the Australia Society of Polish Jews and Their Descendants.
