Anna Mieszkowska’s Book on Irena Sendler
Prawdziwa historia Ireny Sendlerowej (Irena Sendler’s Real Story) presents verified facts relating to the life of the book’s heroine. Mieszkowska deals with legends, false facts and facts that have previously been passed over. She shows how, in craving to find heroism in people, records are over-interpreted. The real story of the Mother of Children of the Holocaust turns out to be not just great, but also equally tragic and very human. Irena Sendler’s daughter, Janina Zgrzembska, aided in the preparation of the book. The biography is illustrated with photographic and documentary material published for the first time.
Those taking part in the launch will include the author, Janina Zgrzembska and Dorota Koman (as compere). Documentary films by Zofia Kunert and Andrzej Wolf will be screened. Fragments of the book will be read by Sławomir Holland and violinist Anna Środecka will perform. The event is organised by Wydawnictwo Marginesy, DSH.
