Album Commemorating the Righteous from the District of Rzeszów
On December 7, 2011 The Institute of National Rememberance Branch in Rzeszów introduced its latest publication - Poles rescuing Jews in the Rzeszów region in the years 1939-1945 edited by Elżbieta Rączy and Igor Witowicz.
This bilingual Polish-English album reveals the Polish people from the District of Rzeszów who were giving help to Jews during World War II. The stories of rescue has been illustrated with archival and contemporary photographs most of which are published for the first time. Not only do they show persons but also remnants of the hiding places.
The authors has established a list of 1600 names of people from the surrounds of Rzeszów engaged in rescuing. According to their knowledge 200 rescuers were shot dead by the Gestapo. Among them Eleonora Goleń from Niegłowice killed in a show execution on January 5, 1943.
