9th Summer School in Holocaust Studies

The Jagiellonian University will host the 9th Summer School in Holocaust Studies 1st-7th July 2014.

The Summer School is a cyclical program of the Jagiellonian University’s Holocaust Research Centre, together with the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center (Skokie, IL, USA), in co-operation with Polish and overseas institutions – the UJ Institute of European Studies, the Yad Vashem Institute in Jerusalem, the Kraków Historical Museum, the Galicia Jewish Museum in Kraków, the Ukrainian Centre of Holocaust Studiesin Kiev, the International Education Centre on Auschwitz and the Holocaust in the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oświęcim, the International History Youth Meeting House in Oświęcim, as well as the Jewish Centre in Oświęcim.

The principal sponsor of the Summer School is the Claims Conference and the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, Inc. The program has also been supported financially by the Michael H. Traisona Foundation for Poland, as well as by private individuals whose heartfelt desire is to preserve the memory of the Holocaust.

The Summer School’s lecturers are outstanding experts in this field from home and abroad (among them: Prof. Michael Berenbaum, Prof. Jan Tomasz Gross, Prof. Zdzisław Mach, Prof. Wiesław Kozub-Ciembroniewicz, Prof. Jonathan Webber, Prof. Andrzej Żbikowski, Dr hab. Dariusz Libionka, Dr Jolanta Ambrosewicz-Jacobs, Dr Joanna Preizner, Dr Bartosz Kwiecińki, Dr Piotr Trojański, Robert Kuwałek and Robert Szuchta), who share with participants of the Program their knowledge of the Holocaust, methods of teaching the Holocaust and how to benefit from resources.

This educational event is directed at teachers, students, trainers and leaders of non-government organisations throughout Poland who deal with Holocaust subject matter. 

The Mission of the Summer School, Teaching the Holocaust,is the building of a just, open and tolerant society through linking Holocaust education to the Polish education system.

The 9th Summer SchoolTeaching the Holocaust will include lectures, presentations, workshops, film screenings, panel discussions and question and answers sessions with the experts. The program will also include visits to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, the International History Youth Meeting House in Oświęcim, the Jewish Education Centre in Oświęcim, w Kraków Historical Museum, the Galicia Jewish Museum in Kraków, the Ukrainian Centre of Holocaust Studiesin Kiev, Oskar Schindler’s Emalia factory and the Galicia Jewish Museum.
