3rd edition of the “Open Twarda” festival

As the organizers of the event wrote, the festival is a „lens through which the whole cultural-educational  program of the Jewish Center at 6 Twarda Street is presented”. The main goal of this event is to show various aspects of the life of the contemporary Jewish community in Warsaw and to present Polish artistic events connected with Jewish culture.

The previous editions were mainly concentrated around the Nożyk Synagogue. This year the program will also include events located in other parts of the city, among others in the Praga district.

Numerous interesting events are included in this year’s program: lectures (among them a lecture by the ethnologist Agata Maksimowska “Birobidżan. The contemporary life of the »Soviet Promised Land«”, a lecture by Joanna Ostrowska “Visualization of sufferance. Holocaust in film and visual arts”), trips and walks (visit of the Bródno Cemetery, city game in the Jewish Praga district, the walk “My Jewish Warsaw”), film screenings (films from the International Film Festiwal “Jewish Motifs”), meetings (meeting with members of the Second Generation Association – descendants of Holocaust survivors), workshops (Hebrew calligraphy, “Jewish plot in the kitchen”, writing of Midrash) and concerts (short films by Roman Polański with live music by the experimental duet SzaZa, concert of the Sztetl Quartet, Pitom and AutorYno).

The main goal of the “Open Twarda” festival is to promote cultural diversity in Warsaw. This project is part of the educational-social activities of the Warsaw Jewish Community.

The program is carried out thanks to the financial support of the City of Warsaw. The entrance to all the events being part of the festival is free. For some of the events a free ticket is requested (more information and the program of the event can be found on the website  of “Open Twarda”).
