The beatification ceremony of Józef and Wiktoria Ulma, and their seven children, will take place on 10th September 2023. As a result of being denounced, on 24th March 1944, this Polish family was murdered by the Germans for helping Jews. The ceremony, which will take place in the village of Markowa in Podkarpacie Province, will culminate the beatification process which has lasted twenty years.

See new POLIN Museum’s temporary exhibition devoted to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising to focus on the perspective of civilians. During the Uprising, they hid in bunkers and shelters, defying the German system of deportations and mass murder. Instead of responding to summons to turn up for transports heading towards imminent death, they remained in hiding. Their silent act of resistance was as important as armed combat.
