    This film tells the story of Wilhelm Hosenfeld, a Wehrmacht officer who, during the War, contributed to saving the lives of both Jews and Poles. He died in 1952 in a Soviet camp near Stalingrad. An attempt to rescue him from that camp was unsuccessful. He was posthumously awarded the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, as well as being honoured with the title of Righteous Among the Nations.

    This is an adaptation of Janna Krall’s “The One from Hamburg”. A young couple, Jan and Barbara, cannot have children. Brought home by Jan, Regina, a young Jewish girl, hides in a wardrobe. After a time, Regina becomes pregnant by Jan, which leads Barbara to betray the woman in hiding. The child is then taken away from her real mother who, after being liberated, leaves the country and loses any contact with her daughter.
