POLISH ATTITUDES TOWARDS JEWS DURING WWII – FILM SCREENING AND DISCUSSION

, 16 November 2016
Next Tuesday, on 20 March, the former building of the Library of the University of Warsaw will host a screening of the film Second Truth, followed by a discussion panel on the attitudes of Poles towards Jews during WWII. The event is organised by the Independent Students' Union at the University of Warsaw and the Judaism Section of the Students' History Scientific Club.

Second Truth, a film by Jagna Wright and Aneta Naszyńska, will be the starting point for the discussion. The panel will be joined by Szewach Weiss, former Israel's Ambassador to Poland, and Joanna Król, a representative of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews.

“The debate on the Polish “participation” in Shoah triggered, among others, by books written by Jan Tomasz Gross, is often brought to one of the extremes – either to the Righteous Among the Nations or quite the contrary – to suggesting that Poles actively took part in the Holocaust. With help from our panellists, we would like to confront this issue once again. At the same time, we will be talking about how the Holocaust is remembered and commemorated in Poland and in Israel.

The film screening and the discussion will take place on 20 March at 8pm in the Main Lecture Hall of the former building of the Library of the University of Warsaw, located on the Main Campus (Krakowskie Przedmieście 26/28).
