PATRON OF A NEW HIGH SCHOOL IN ŁÓDŹ

red., 16 November 2016
The high school Liceum Ogólnokształcące Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego wants to assume the Righteous Among the Nations as their patrons. The initiative is supported by Israel's Ambassador to Poland, who issued a proper recommendation to the Yad Vashem Institute.

The Ambassador, Zvi Rav-Ner, met with the school's pupils and teachers on Wednesday. As emphasised by the school principal, Dr Tomasz Kłos, the authorities of the school and of the University of Łódź (which supervises the high school) planned to use the Righteous as the school's patrons from the very beginning.

The high school started operating last year in September. It currently has 50 pupils who are divided into two profile groups: one is focused on humanities and the other on mathematics and natural sciences. Most teachers also work as university lecturers. Before WWII, the building of the school served as an orphanage for Jewish girls. During the occupation, the inhabitants of the orphanage were sent to the Łódź Ghetto.
