Australia pays tribute to the Polish Righteous
The event, hosted by the Australian Society of Polish Jews & Their Descendents (ASPJ), will be held at the Beth Weizmann Jewish Community Centre in Melbourne in the presence of members of the diplomatic corps and invited dignitaries from both the local Jewish and Polish communities.
The program for the event will include the Australian premiere screening of the film “Ocaleni” and the Official Opening of the exhibition “They Risked Their Lives – Poles Who Saved Jews During the Holocaust”. Both the film and the exhibition were produced as part of the Museum’s “The Polish Righteous – Restoring Memory” project.
A short memorial service will also be held honouring the Polish Righteous who gave their lives trying to aid Jews, as well as for the six million Jews who perished during the Holocaust.
The exhibition will then go on display at various locations in Melbourne. For the three months, it will be able to be viewed at Melbourne’s Lamm Jewish Library of Australia, following which it will travel around several of Melbourne’s Polish community centres.
The event is being staged at the initiative of the ASPJ’s Vice-President, Andrew Rajcher. Andrew is also a long-serving English-language volunteer translator for the POLIN Museum itself and for its projects.
