An Extraordinary Gift is Added to the POLIN Museum's Collection

Mateusz Szczepaniak, 16 November 2016
The POLIN Museum's collection has been presented with an extraordinary gift by Mrs Danuta Orzeszko-Bałuk - a set of herring plates belonging to her mother Janina Orzeszko. These plates are linked to the story of how her mother had hidden Jews.

During the War, the Orzeszko family helped Jews from Radom. One of them was Mr.Rubinek, a dental technician who, prior to the War, had worked together with Janina Orzeszko. Fleeing Warsaw, the man had left Janina with boxes of dental gold. After the War, his wife reclaimed this precious metal. As a token of gratitude for Janina Orzeszko's help. she gave Janina the set of herring plates. On 18th August 2015, Janina and Tadeusz Orzeszko's daughter, Danuta, donated the set to the POLIN Museum's collection.
